One of the things I loved when I moved to Europe was living life by calendar weeks. I liked knowing what week of the year I was living in. It allowed me to clearly track where I was at in relation to goals, seasons, etc. This year, I am going to be counting the weeks, as I track turning my 2018 goals into action. The weeks gave me a much clearer picture than the days or months.
I have been reflecting a lot this holiday seasons as I prepare to make 2018 my best year year. I always find the word 'resolution' doesn't land for me. I truly believe that each moment of our life provides a learning opportunity, one that we can leverage to our full advantage. I also believe that life is like a funnel, one that we are constantly making tweaks (big and small) to make more and more refined as we continuously strive to live our very best life.
I am also a firm believer in perception; what we perceive is our own personal truth. I think that Day 1 | Week 1 gives us the perception of a fresh start or a blank canvas, so we resolve to change things in our life for the better. Where I see the gap here, is that we forget to leverage what we have learned over our past 20, 30, 40, 50 years of life. When we forget the past, we often tend to take the same road again unintentionally.
I prefer to see Day 1 | Week 1 as a new chapter in each of our stories. It builds on the chapters before, constantly striving for more (be it clarity, happiness, joy, experiences, or lessons).
I encourage you, no matter how many challenges or opportunities, setbacks or growth moments, heartaches or celebrations 2017 may have held for you to take time to reflect on what you have learned this past year and how those learnings are going to enable you to be better, happier, and more joyful in 2018. What about 2017 moved you down the funnel, one more step forward to best version of yourself?
Then, consider what goals you can set for yourself in 2018 to continue to move down that funnel. Consider:
- What do you need to let go of to be the best version of yourself in 2018?
- How can you turn up the volume on joy in your life?
- What makes you the happiest, how can you get more of that into your daily routine?
More on goal setting coming later this week :)
I can't wait to watch you be the best version of yourself in 2018!
