After school my daughter asked to watch an episode of the Bubble Guppies. I instantly thought: "Perfect! I can get some more work done while I plop her down in front of the TV." As I went to actually put her in front of the TV, I realized that heading back to my computer was not going to reduce my stress, it was going to increase it.
So I plopped right down next to her in front of the TV. I imagined erasing my mind of all the stressors in my life. I cuddled and watched the show. I laughed at the jokes. I appreciated my daughter snuggling up against me. When the Bubble Guppies ended I noticed that my stress had melt away a little bit. It wasn't all gone, but it felt manageable again.
It was just what I needed, when I needed it.
