In January I participated in a focused nutrition challenge to eat whole foods, regularly. It meant that I committed to eating a healthy breakfast within one hour of waking up every, single day. I could go on and on about the benefits of eating breakfast, but the biggest win of all was enjoying a weekday meal as a family. It meant all three of us sat down together at the table and made time to have breakfast together.
It gave us an opportunity to nourish not only our physical selves, but our emotional and intellectual selves as well. It was a beautiful thing that I hope continues forever.
The key benefits I noticed were:
- Our mornings were easier - my daughter was more cooperative, connected and engaged,
- Daycare drop off was smoother (likely again because of this morning connection), and
- I started my workday with a smile on my face and a full belly.
